Chase Claypool Traded from Chicago Bears to Miami Dolphins
Miami Acquires Wide Receiver in Draft Pick Swap
October 6, 2023
The Chicago Bears have traded wide receiver Chase Claypool to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a draft pick swap, the teams announced on Friday. The Bears will receive Miami's 2025 second-round pick.
Claypool, 24, was acquired by the Bears from the Pittsburgh Steelers at the NFL's 2022 trade deadline in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick. He struggled to find his footing in Chicago, catching just 33 passes for 381 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games with the team.
The Dolphins are hoping that Claypool can provide a much-needed boost to their passing offense. The team currently ranks 27th in the NFL in passing yards per game and 29th in points per game.
Claypool is a former second-round pick of the Steelers who has shown flashes of potential during his short NFL career. He had a breakout season in 2020, catching 62 passes for 873 yards and nine touchdowns. However, his production declined in 2021, and he was traded to the Bears after the Steelers refused to pick up his fifth-year option.
The trade for Claypool is the latest move by the Dolphins to improve their offense. The team also acquired quarterback Tua Tagovailoa from the Las Vegas Raiders in March.
