CONMEBOL Sudamericana Playoffs Begin
This week, the continental club competition of CONMEBOL reactivates with the round of 16 playoffs.
The CONMEBOL Sudamericana, also known as the Copa Sudamericana, is a club football competition organized by CONMEBOL. Founded in 2002, the tournament is the second-most important club competition in South America after the Copa Libertadores. The tournament is contested by teams from all ten CONMEBOL member associations: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The winner of the tournament qualifies for the following year's Copa Libertadores.
The round of 16 playoffs will be played over two legs, with the first legs taking place on August 2 and 3 and the second legs taking place on August 9 and 10. The eight winners of the playoffs will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played over two legs on August 16 and 17 and August 23 and 24. The four winners of the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals, which will be played over two legs on September 6 and 7 and September 13 and 14. The winner of the semifinals will advance to the final, which will be played on October 1.
The CONMEBOL Sudamericana is one of the most prestigious club competitions in South America. The tournament has been won by some of the biggest clubs in the region, including Boca Juniors, River Plate, and São Paulo. The tournament is also a great opportunity for smaller clubs to make a name for themselves on the international stage.
