Astros Advance to ALCS to Face Chicago White Sox

Houston Strong: Astros Win Series 3-1

The Houston Astros defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Monday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, to win the American League Division Series (ALDS) 3-1 and advance to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) to face the Chicago White Sox.

The Astros took an early lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Jose Altuve. The Royals tied the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Salvador Perez, but the Astros regained the lead in the second inning on a two-run home run by Yordan Alvarez.

The Royals cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Hunter Dozier, but the Astros extended their lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Altuve. The Royals scored one more run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Perez, but the Astros held on for the 5-3 victory.

Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out eight batters. Royals starter Brad Keller pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out five batters.

The Astros will now face the Chicago White Sox in the ALCS, which begins on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.
