Diamondbacks Defeat Giants
In a thrilling game at Chase Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks overcame a 4-0 deficit to defeat the San Francisco Giants 6-4 on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
The Giants jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring four runs off of Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen. Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-run double, and Joc Pederson added a two-run home run to give San Francisco an early advantage.
Diamondbacks Make Comeback
The Diamondbacks chipped away at the lead in the second inning, scoring one run on an RBI single by Ketel Marte. They tied the game in the third inning on a two-out, two-run double by Christian Walker.
Arizona took the lead for good in the sixth inning, scoring two runs on a single by Daulton Varsho. The Giants threatened to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Diamondbacks closer Mark Melancon struck out Yastrzemski with the bases loaded to end the game.

Gallen pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Diamondbacks, allowing four runs on seven hits. Melancon earned the save with his one-inning appearance.
Giants starter Alex Wood lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Yastrzemski led the Giants offense with a 3-for-4 performance, while Brandon Belt went 2-for-4.
